Internal Service Volunteers
It seems that the Kitchen is not only the heart of our personal homes, but also at the heart of our church home. Many of the church activities include some aspect of food or refreshment, and give us the opportunity to extend Holy Hospitality to visitors, special guests, friends, and members. Our hospitality ranges from simple cookies and coffee on Sunday mornings, to regular, simple meals for the participants in our WoW (Word on Wednesdays) evening activities, to elaborate and beautiful affairs such as special receptions and parties.
A large number of volunteers make this ministry possible by brewing coffee, putting out snacks, cleaning up, bringing food, cooking food, serving food, setting and decorating tables, washing linens, purchasing supplies, coordinating large events, and so many other chores necessary to provide tasteful and tasty hospitality. It is said that many hands make light work. We welcome any contribution you want to make to this effort—from bringing a snack one time; to taking on a small, regular job; to volunteering once-in-a-while for a big event—any and all help is appreciated. Please contact Hospitality@sac-okc.org to see how you can help. |
Congregational Care
While life is filled with many joys, often our journey can be filled with challenging times of need. The St. Augustine’s Congregational Care Team is an umbrella organization that coordinates the efforts of many ministries to most effectively serve our members when a need arises. Congregational Care includes the individual ministries of our:

- Eucharistic Visitors - An appointed and highly trained church member will come to serve and share Eucharist (Communion) with a person who cannot make it to church.

Communications Team
The Communications Team strives for continuous improvement in the way we communicate—both internally and externally. This group has been instrumental in providing the Welcome Brochure—introducing the character and spirit of our church to visitors and new members—and Be My Guest cards— providing a handy hand-out for our members to give to anyone they have an opportunity to invite to church and the church web site.
We hope to continuously improve our church website and strive for ever more sophisticated ways of using social media to get the word about St. Augustine’s out to those in our community who may be seeking a church home.
With ever-changing technology and increasingly sophisticated methods for communication, we are seeking people with expertise in the fields of writing, technology, audio-visual equipment, and/or communications to join this committee. If you have any of these gifts and are willing to share them, come and be a part of a group that is striving to spread the word about St. Augustine’s!
Please contact Communication@sac-okc.org to help with this ministry.

Eucharistic Visitors
Trained and licensed by the Diocese, the ministry of Eucharistic Visitors is to take Holy Communion to people who are homebound or otherwise unable to attend Church. This service is available for a time or two, or on an on-going basis. The Eucharistic Visitors supplement visits by the Clergy to home-bound members. If you or a family member would like to be visited by one of our Eucharistic Visitors, you may request a visit or be put on a rotation for regular visits by contacting the Member Engagement Coordinator at MemberEngagement@sac-okc.org. If you are interested in becoming a Eucharistic Visitor yourself, please contact Visitor@sac-okc.org.
Greeters
It is said that a guest decides almost immediately upon walking through the doors of a church for the first time whether or not they want to return. One of the comments most frequently heard at St. Augustine is how welcoming we are to all guests.
Those who participate in the Greeter ministry enjoy the opportunity to meet new people and share the warmth of St. Augustine with all who enter. It is a wonderful way to serve in the church for those who are available only on Sunday mornings.
The primary charge of this ministry is to make sure that everyone who enters our church doors on Sunday will feel welcomed and appreciated. Tasks include familiarizing guests with the Bulletin, asking them to sign the Guest Book, helping them find their way around the building, and submitting guests’ names to be read during prayers. They also help to welcome those who attend funerals and other special functions at our church. Greeters generally serve about once every 6 to 8 weeks and are asked to arrive 30 minutes before the service to which they are assigned. Greeters are expected to attend a “Safeguarding God’s People” training workshop when it is offered. All other training will be provided “on the job.”
For more information about this ministry, please contact Greeters@sac-okc.org.

Health Ministry
The Parish Health Ministry works in conjunction with St. Augustine’s clergy, staff and other ministries to actively promote the integration of faith and health to achieve wellbeing. The Parish Health Ministry is a team of trained Faith Community Nurses and Faith Health Advocates dedicated to the wellbeing of body, mind and spirit, using a holistic health model. The mission of the Parish Health Ministry is to assist/direct parishioners to appropriate health care resources, community resources and special educational opportunities, as well as visiting those homebound or in health care facilities. The team is also trained in assessing various needs to achieve optimal health and wellbeing. This groups sponsors and organizes various activities around the church, training in CPR, first aid and other health related skills. In furtherance of these goals, the Parish Health Ministry also publishes a monthly “Wellness Tip.”
For more information or to inquire about training to become a part of this group, please contact ParishHeath@sac-okc.org.

Office Aides
We are often in need of volunteers who are willing to help out in the church office on an as-needed basis to assist with various clerical activities such as answering the phone, making copies, stuffing envelopes and a variety of activities that come up from time-to-time.
If you are willing to be put your name on our on-call list, please email Office@sac-okc.org.

Prayer Shawl Group
A Prayer Shawl is a small hand-knit or crocheted blanket to bring comfort and warmth to the recipient, but also a vehicle for transmitting prayers for solace, peace, and love from the maker to the recipient. Anyone who can knit or crochet is invited to participate in this ministry. There are no meetings to attend. You can use any pattern you wish for your shawls, or we will provide a pattern for you to follow, using yarn supplied by you. You can partner with another Prayer Shawl maker to share prayers, tips, and tricks, or even receive knitting lessons, or you can work at your own pace. There are no deadlines or rules, other than to pray for the recipient throughout the creation of the Shawl. Each completed Shawl is returned to the church to be blessed, labeled with a message of care and concern for the recipient, and stored at the church. Anyone is welcome to take a prayer shawl (in the black cabinet in Classroom 2) to a friend or family member that needs to be wrapped in soft yarn and filled with love and prayers from our church. To find out more about this ministry please contact PrayerShawl@sac-okc.org.
Stewardship Team
Many of us have felt a calling, some special connection, or spiritual experience that led us to and kept us at St. Augustine’s. We have been blessed beyond measure with the God-given gifts that have brought us to where we are in our Christian community. These gifts have allowed us to be more than your “ordinary church,” but a special place where guests become friends and where many of us have found the place of worship and fellowship that we were seeking. The Stewardship Team strives to keep us focused on identifying and using the resources God has provided us so that we can continue our ministry.
We want to provide the next seekers of Jesus who walk through our doors the experiences they need in their Christian walk. This has led us to focus on a year-round sense of stewardship of our time, talent, and treasure rather than a once-a-year “fundraising drive.”
What shall I return to the Lord for all of God’s bounty to me? Psalms 116:12
If you feel a calling to help with this effort, we would be happy for your assistance on this team. Please contact Stewardship@sac-okc.org

Ushers
Whether you are entering our building for worship for the first time or have been to church at St. Augustine’s a hundred times, the Ushers are an invaluable part of our worship experience. The Ushers’ obvious jobs are to distribute bulletins, make sure visitors find a comfortable place to be seated in the Sanctuary, collect the offering, and direct traffic during Holy Communion. They also assist with less obvious tasks such as counting and recording attendance, counting the offering, patrolling the building and parking lot during the service, and tidying up the Sanctuary after the service. Ushers serve about once per month and are required to be present and on-duty 30 minutes prior to the service for which they are serving.
No experience is needed, and you will be provided with “on the job” training, including attending a “Safeguarding God’s People” workshop when it is offered. The Head Usher briefs Ushers prior to any special services or if there are changes to the usual protocol.
Please contact Ushers@sac-okc.org to inquire about or sign up for this ministry.
