Community Outreach

Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. 1 Peter 4:10

Brotherhood of St. Lawrence

The Brotherhood of St. Lawrence is a group of men who enjoy cooking (indoors and out), fellowship and service to the church and community.  The group meets informally and periodically for fellowship and planning.  They organize service projects and fundraising activities that provide funding for a number of community service activities throughout the year.  All adult men of the congregation are invited and encouraged to be a part of the Brotherhood.

Episcopal Church Women

The ECW is an organization of women who enjoy fun and fellowship with the goal of serving our local OKC community.  Through a variety of creative fundraising ventures they provide Christmas gifts and a Christmas party to the residents of the Jesus House, monthly hygiene and personal supplies to the women residents of the Jesus House and fund various projects to benefit other community agencies such as the Infant Crisis Services and the Homeless Alliance.  All adult women of the parish are considered members of the ECW and invited to attend any meeting, activity or event as often as possible.

The Harbor Ministry

Members of St. Augustine’s have ministered to The Harbor, a home for approximately 100 mentally impaired adults, for more than a decade. Deacon Robby Trammell and others from St. Augustine’s assist with a 1:00 p.m. prayer and praise service on the first Sunday of each month. The service includes Holy Communion from the reserve sacrament as well as anointing and prayers for healing. The service is frequently followed by a fellowship/snack time. St. Augustine’s members also support the residents of The Harbor with contributions of various supplies such as shoes and socks, bedding and cash contributions for Christmas gifts, food and other necessities. The Brotherhood of St. Lawrence also organizes cookouts for the residents. The Harbor is located at 4100 Newport Avenue in Oklahoma City.

Jesus House Ministry

The mission of the Jesus House, and its faith-based programs, is “to transform lives impacted by mental illness, homelessness, and addiction by providing a place for wellness, recovery, spiritual growth, and a meaningful future.” St. Augustine’s ministers to the men and women seeking recovery at the Jesus House—located at 1335 West Sheridan in downtown Oklahoma City—by offering a worship service at 1:00 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month, often followed by a fellowship/snack time. A special service of foot washing on Maundy Thursday has also become an annual event. A number of other services are provided to the Jesus House in conjunction with other St. Augustine’s ministries, such as Thanksgiving food baskets provided through the Brotherhood of St. Lawrence, women’s personal items and toiletries provided each spring by the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), and periodic meals provided by the Brotherhood and served with parish-wide volunteers.  St. Augustine’s also contributes financially to augment the donations and volunteer efforts of our members.
