Wednesday Lenten Programming
6:00 p.m. - Stations of the Cross
The congregation is invited to gather on Wednesdays in Lent beginning March 12th - April 9th in an age-old tradition of journeying with Jesus on the “Via Dolorosa” by praying the Stations of the Cross.
6:30 - Lenten Supper & Family Formation
Following our service of the Stations of Cross. A lite Fish & Soup Reception hosted by various parishioners will accompany of Lenten study on Wednesdays. As we enter the most important season of the Church Year, we will use a video series by John Ortberg “Who is This Man” to look at Jesus’ impact on our world.
Jesus and the birth of Christianity are highly unlikely, widely inescapable, largely unknown, and decidedly double-edged. His life and teachings simply drew people to follow him. Jesus made history by starting in a humble place, in a spirit of love and acceptance, and allowing each person space to respond.
Jesus is history’s most familiar figure, yet he is a man no one knows, this impact on the world is immense and non-accidental. He simply is the man who will not go away.
Artistic/Hands on Aspect
For those who would like to have an opportunity to explore their faith in a tangible and artistic mode. During our Wednesday evening formation time, we will create 14 Stations of the Resurrection canvases.
Most people are familiar with the Stations of the Cross, which commemorate the 14 events leading to the crucifixion, death, and burial of Christ. The Stations of the Resurrection commemorate 14 events immediately following the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. This is another wonderful tradition which allows the church to participate in a spiritual pilgrimage and deepens our corporate liturgical life.
It is our hope, that the artistic representations will be completed in time for when the youth of SAC will lead the entire congregation in praying the Stations of the Resurrection on the Second Sunday of Easter, April 27th .
